You have probably heard of the word polyester. And we can almost guarantee that the first time you heard about that word was when you were researching clothes, maybe reading some tag. Polyester is widely used in making fabrics, which in the future can become garments.
But polyester is not only used to make fabrics. It can be used for many other purposes. Read on for more details!
what is polyester?
Polyester is a category of polymers that has a functional ester group in the main chain. Hence the name polyester.
There are several types of polyester, but one of the most common is polyethylene terephthalate, better known as PET.
It can have natural or synthetic composition, some of which are biodegradable. Most of the synthetic polyesters are not.
As we said at the beginning, polyester is widely used in the production of knits and fabrics used in shirts, pants, sheets, curtains and upholstery.
Some of the advantages of polyester fabrics are greater durability, color retention and resistance to roughness. That is, they are less rumpled.
It is quite common to mix polyester with natural fibers, such as cotton, for example. Maybe that reminds you of something: 50% polyester, 50% cotton. Have you ever seen something like that on a clothing label?
But polyester is not only used in the fabric manufacturing process. It is also used in the manufacture of plastic bottles, the famous PET bottles.
It is also used in the manufacture of filters, films, tire reinforcements, powder paint, padding, finishes for musical instruments, LED screens and insulating material. Let’s talk a little more about the latter.
Polyester widely used as an insulating material
Polyester is also widely used to manufacture insulating materials. One is the insulating polyester film.
It is a material that has great resistance to tension, good dimensional and chemical stability.
Because of its high dielectric strength, the insulating polyester film is widely used for the insulation of electric motors, telephone and electrical wires and cables, transformers, flexible printed circuits, laminates for the electrical industry, release of parts produced with fiber-reinforced materials glass, etc.
It can also be used as packaging and document protection, acoustic and artistic applications such as stencil, nautical applications and also in the aerospace industry and application in the model hobby.
We at Geartech BR sell some types of polyester films. One is Class B 130 Polyester.
It is a material of high mechanical resistance and minimally oriented.
Its dimensional stability characteristics provide great electrical insulation capacity, with better performance in automatic insertion machines, when compared to other types of insulation.
Another type of film is Polyester Clear 130, which has excellent diversity in use, as its properties serve various segments such as in the cable, electrical insulation, laminating, winding of transformers, cassette masks, adhesive tapes and other applications for use industries general.
Geartech BR currently occupies a prominent position in the country importing films, polyester compounds, papers and insulating tapes. We work only with certified products and excellent origin, in order to meet expectations and achieve the satisfaction of our customers.
